About Us
With Charity for All was founded by a group of Catholics and non-Catholics in Portland, Maine who were morally opposed to their bishop’s public withdrawal of financial resources from a local homeless shelter in 2008 because the shelter supported marriage equality. We welcome donors of all faiths, believers and non-believers, who want to provide financial and moral support to organizations without requiring them to suppress individual conscience or freedom of expression. We espouse the fundamental belief that charity is the most important virtue and always comes before politics.
MISSION:
With Charity for All provides financial and moral support to humanitarian organizations that have been abandoned by the bishops and other religious officials due to the application of political litmus tests.
VISION:
While many religious institutions have evolved as the dominant providers of humanitarian assistance, some have succumbed to the temptation to use charity as an instrument of political power. The Board of Directors of With Charity for All asks: “What groups are best suited to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, treat the sick, and give educational and economic opportunity to the poor?”
